Onboard a new client (end to end)

From first audit to fixes going live: the audit, the three Onboarding steps, then Fix Issues.

10 min read Beginner

This is the whole flow for bringing a client's site onto the platform. The audit needs no access from the client. The Onboarding steps need their Google sign-in and their website, so see “Credentials you'll need” before you start.

1. Audit the site

  1. 1Click “Audit a new site” in the site switcher at the top of the sidebar and enter the client's domain.
  2. 2We crawl the whole site and grade every page, usually in seconds.
  3. 3The site appears in your dashboard with its findings and a written fix for each issue.

2. Work through Onboarding

Open Onboarding, at the top of the sidebar. It has three steps; each can be skipped and finished later, and each ticks itself off when its connection works.

  • Confirm your business: we read the site and fill in what the business does. Correct anything that is off. It shapes every fix and article we write.
  • Connect your search data: Search Console, Analytics, Business Profile and Bing. Each is its own Google or Microsoft sign-in, so use whichever account owns each one. We read the data and can submit pages for indexing; nothing on the site changes.
  • Connect your website: WordPress, Webflow or another platform, so approved fixes and articles go straight to the site. See “Connect your website”.

No access to the client's Google account or website? Have them add you as a user in Search Console, or use “send this step to your developer” on the website step: the person you invite joins as an Editor on this site only.

3. Review and apply fixes

  1. 1Open Fix Issues. Each fix shows the change next to what the page has now.
  2. 2Approve the ones you want, page by page or with Approve all for a fix type.
  3. 3With the website connected, Apply to site puts them live. See “Review, approve and apply fixes”.

4. Keep it running

On a paid plan, Content Studio drafts articles for you to approve, and AEO Autopilot runs the read, build and track loop on a schedule. Automation that spends credits stays off until you turn it on.

Share the Report Card (Overview → Report Card) as the client's first deliverable.

Common questions

What's the minimum to get value?

Just the audit. It grades the site and writes fixes with no client access. The Onboarding steps make the numbers real and let the fixes go live.

Can I onboard without the client's logins?

Yes for the audit and the fixes. To see their data you need their Google sign-in or to be added as a user, and to apply fixes their website must be connected, by them, by a developer you invite, or by you.
